Texture is an important aspect in any decorating scheme. Dishes are a wonderful way to achieve this. Just hanging a dish on the wall immediately brings in some texture, but when the dish itself is textured you get double the effect.

A style of dish called majolica has this depth and often is elegant and whimsical. The shapes can be unusual or the actual shape of something found in nature such as a leaf. Historically majolica was the name for the type of earthenware and glaze used.
